Fees and timing

How much does an SMSF audit cost?

$300 per fund before GST ($330 with GST), whatever the fund's size or complexity. Any extras, such as a current land title search if you ask us to get one, are listed on our fees page.

Is there a minimum number of funds?

No. You can send one fund or many.

How long does an audit take?

Most audits are finished within a week of us receiving complete documents. Missing documents are the usual cause of delay, so our checklist lists them all.

What if documents are missing?

We tell you what's missing. We may begin a preliminary review with what you've sent, but the audit pauses until we have everything we need.

Getting started

How do we get started?

Send us a message or call. We send an engagement letter; once it's signed, you upload the first fund through our client portal.

Do you need a signed engagement letter?

Yes. The auditing standards require one before the audit starts. It sets out the work, the fee and who is responsible for what.

How do we send the papers?

Through our secure client portal at gahak.smsfaudits.com, not by email.

The audit

What do we receive?

A signed audit report and a management letter.

Do you review the fund's investment strategy?

Yes. Evaluating the fund's investment strategy is part of the compliance audit.

Do you help if compliance issues come up?

Our management letter explains each issue and practical steps to fix it. We can't advise the trustees on their investments or prepare the fund's accounts, because that would affect our independence.

Independence and who signs

Are you registered with ASIC?

Each of our auditors who signs audits is registered with ASIC as an SMSF auditor, and you can check their numbers on ASIC's register. ASIC registers individual auditors, not firms.

Our auditors

How do you keep your audits independent?

We only audit. We don't prepare or advise on the funds we audit, and we never audit a fund whose accounts Dhan Accountants prepared.

Independence and APES 110

Will we know who is auditing a fund, and can we talk to them?

Yes. Auditors are assigned per firm, and the auditor's name is on the report they sign. If you need to, you can contact the auditor through us, and we keep you informed from your enquiry until the audit is finished.

Your clients' information

How do you protect our clients' data?

Papers come to us through our secure client portal over an encrypted connection, not by email. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your clients' information.
