The audit · for firms

How an audit works with us

Five steps from your enquiry to a signed report. Most audits are finished within a week of complete documents.

Most audits

The steps in full

  1. Engagement letter

Once you ask, we send an engagement letter. It sets out the audit, the fee and what each of us is responsible for, as the auditing standards require.

  2. Upload through the portal

We set up your firm on our client portal, gahak.smsfaudits.com. Upload each fund's papers there, using our checklist. Please don't send them by plain email.

  3. We audit

A registered SMSF auditor audits the fund's financial statements and its compliance with super law.

  4. Queries, if any

If we need anything else, we ask you through the portal, where you answer and attach any documents. We keep you informed until the audit is finished.

  5. Signed report

We send the signed audit report and the management letter to you, to pass to the trustees.

The engagement letter

The letter is needed before any audit starts. It covers the scope of the audit, the trustees' responsibilities and ours, the fee, and how we handle the fund's information.

The portal

The portal is a secure place to upload each fund's papers, so your clients' financial information doesn't travel by email.

What to send

Our checklist lists every document an auditor needs, on one page you can read on screen or print.

Deadlines

Plan around the lodgement date

The fund's annual return can't be lodged until the audit is finished. Send each fund in good time before its lodgement date, with complete papers, and tell us the date. We can't promise to finish a fund that reaches us with papers missing close to its deadline.

Send your first fund this week.

Ask for an engagement letter and access to our client portal. We reply within one working day.
